I'm the daughter and friend of a breast cancer survivor, my mother. Nothing has been more self-empowering and emotionally rewarding than being a part of Race for the Cure to show my support for women diagnosed with breast cancer. My mother lost her mother at 11 yrs. old. I am lucky to have my mother alive today, thanks to the Susan G. Komen organization. This is my way of giving back to our community by donating my time and funds to this cause. Being a part of this phenomenon gives me inspiration to fight breast cancer as a community by supporting one another. Please visit www.thebreastcancersite.com to find out more on how to help women with low incomes get a FREE mammogram.
On Saturday, October 20th, 2007 Susan Koman funded
the Race for the Cure against breast cancer event at Bayfront Park, Downtown
Miami. Thankfully, I was a part of this amazing event that left chills down
my spine from such intense awareness in our communities today against breast
cancer. My grandmother died at a very early age to breast cancer. Thanks to
such non-profit organizations, charity events, world wide donations, research
and awareness, my mother was lucky enough to survive breast cancer. She lives
to tell the tale of fighting such a common disease that so many women of all
ages experience today. I'm hoping to spread AWARENESS and MESSAGE that early
detection DOES save lives! Please perform regular self-examinations and mammograms,
especially if breast cancer runs in your family.
